Setting Up a New Phone with Microsoft Authenticator

This guide provides detailed instructions for employees to set up a new phone with their NewPoint account in the Microsoft Authenticator app. Follow these steps carefully to ensure secure access to NewPoint network resources.

Step 1: Download Microsoft Authenticator

On your new phone, open the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).
Search for Microsoft Authenticator.
Download and install the app.

Step 2: Add Your Work or School Account

Open the Microsoft Authenticator app.
If you see an existng NewPoint.com entry, tap the entry, then tap the Settings button in the upper-right, then finally Remove the account for all apps on this device.
Back to the main view within the app, tap Add account or the "+" symbol.
Select Work or school account.
When prompted, sign in with your work or school account credentials (email and password).
You may be asked to authenticate using methods previously set up (e.g., phone number, alternate email, etc.). Follow the on-screen instructions.

Step 3: Scan the QR Code

Visit mysignins.microsoft.com on your NewPoint computer.
Sign in using your work or school account credentials. You’ll be prompted to enter a code, so you’ll need to click More Options at the bottom to receive a text message to your cell phone instead.
Navigate to Security info on the left.
If you see an existing Microsoft Authenticator entry, click Delete next to it.
Click Add method and select Microsoft Authenticator.
Follow the prompts until you see a QR code on your screen. Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone.
Tap Add account or the "+" symbol.
Select Work or school account.
Tap Scan QR code.
Use your phone's camera to scan the QR code displayed on the computer screen.
On the security info screen, next to “Sign-in method when most advisable is unavailable:” click the “Change” link, then ensure it is set to “Authenticator app or hardware token – code”

Step 4: Verify Setup

Once the QR code is successfully scanned, the app will sync with your account.
You’ll see your work or school account listed in Microsoft Authenticator with a code that rotates every 30 seconds.
